Happily Divorced - Season One
"Happily Divorced" is a great sitcom from Fran Drescher ("The Nanny"). This time around, she takes an autobiographical approach to her show. She plays Fran Lovett, a career woman who finds out that her husband is gay. Drescher and her husband, show creator, Peter Marc Jacobson divorced in 1999 and he later came out of the closet.
The series is a fun little show. It takes situation comedy literally and offers a juicy situation to watch. Fran and her newly out ex-husband Peter (John Michael Higgins) are forced to continue living together because of the economic crisis. The series also features sitcom veteran Tichina Arnold ("Martin") and Valente Rodriguez ("George Lopez") ans screen legend Rita Moreno. There are appearances by "The Nanny" alums Renee Taylor and Charles Shaughnessy. You also can catch "Another Gay Movie" hottie Michael Carbonaro.
The DVD features interviews with the cast and crew. It’s pretty fascinating to see how Drescher and Jacobson can continue working so well together despite a major divorce. They share many of their autobiographical moments that made it into the script. There are also interviews with Higgins, Rodriguez, Moreno and Robert Walden. There is also an interview segment with the costume designer and a short featurette about the recording of the theme song and the music on the show.
Fran Drescher is back and better than ever. "Happily Divorced" takes a page from the actress’ real life and delivers a hilarious and topically relevant series. The series is impressive and worth watching.
