14th Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
Since its conception in 2001, the Philadelphia Film Society remains dedicated to the presentation of film and video in the Greater Philadelphia area as a powerful form of artistic expression and a unique force for cultural diversity and international understanding. Founded in 1995, the Philadelphia International Gay & Lesbian Film Festival presents a rainbow of GLBT films and video images from around the world. Special thanks to the presenting sponsors of PIGLFF 2008: AVIS, City of Philadelphia/Department of Commerce, SCION, TLA Entertainment Group, PA Film Office, Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn’s Landing.
At The Fest: Day Thirteen
Can the Festival really be over? Yes, but it went out with a closing night with style, replete with awards, a closing night film, a party and gift bags. Here’s our final blog entry!
At The Fest: Day Twelve
The Festival is nearly over ... but the screenings continue. Here’s Day Twelve’s report.
At The Fest: Day Eleven
When the trailer that precedes every film gets hooted, you know the Festival is winding down. Still, there’s more films to be seen.
At The Fest: Day Ten
Day Ten brought on a realization -- there aren’t all that many "feel-good" gay films.
At The Fest: Day Nine
With film festival fatigue setting in, what to do? Today’s movies didn’t help much. Thankfully there were some alternatives...
Jane Lynch Defies The Odds
Jane Lynch was in Philadelphia last weekend to pick up the 2008 Artistic Achievement Award from the Philadelphia Film Society, which gave EDGE the opportunity to speak to her about a career that blossomed after she turned 40.
At The Fest: Day Eight
The Fest went Hollywood with a special screening of "Mamma Mia" that had some in the audience dancing in their seats.
Charlie David on "Mulligans"
When Charlie David came out, his agent gave him a good piece of advice: create your own projects. With that, "Mulligans" was born -- an indie drama that the "Dante’s Cove" star wrote, produced and co-starred. EDGE spoke with David and his producer Linda Carter on their recent visit to Philadelphia to accompany an upcoming screening of the film.
At The Fest: Day Seven
One week down, only six more to go. Piece of cake. Today was a mixed bag: a disappointing vampire movie, but an arresting British drama and a series of suspenseful gay shorts.
At The Fest: Day Six
Day Six found more gay shorts, this time for women; and comedy in two films -- one a compilation of stand-up comics and the other a narrative
At The Fest: Day Five
Despite it being a Monday, the Festival screenings were surprisingly well-attended. Here are three I was able to see.
At The Fest: Day Four
Day Four was all about seeing movies -- two in particular: Charlie David’s triple-threat (co-producer, writer and star) in "Mulligans." Also Casper Andreas’s latest "Between Love and Goodbye" and a documentary about the first gay porn superstar Jack Wrangler. Here’s the report:
ChiChi LaRue Speaks His Mind (With a Little Help from His Friends)
ChiChi LaRue has been one of the gay male industry’s superstars for more than a decade. Recently he came to Philadelphia where he spoke before a special screening at this year’s Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. EDGE spoke with the always opinionated LaRue about the state of the porn industry. And, yes, got some help from his stars Johnny Hazard and Blake Riley.
At The Fest: Day Two
ChiChi LaRue and two of his adult male stars -- Johnny Hazard and Blake Riley -- visited the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival on Friday. Will it ever be the same?
At the Fest -- Day One
Day One of the Philly Gay & Lesbian Film Festival brought the Mayor, the premiere of "Another Gay Sequel: Boys Gone Wild," and an appearance by ChiChi Larue. EDGE correspondnet Padraic Maroney posts his first blog report.
"Midnight Cowboy" Hits 40
The Oscar-winning "Midnight Cowboy" was a breakthrough film when it was released 40 years ago. On Saturday the Philadelphia Gay and Lesbian Film Festival honors it with a screening and a reunion.
